Community Health
SAINT ANTOINE, A HEALTHCARE COMMUNITY CENTER
The center was created in 1987 with the help of the bishop Jean ASSAF and of brother Nour, a charismatic layman known for his humanitarian action in the region. In 2005, the GSS were asked to take charge of the healthcare center and to go on serving the disadvantaged. Commonly called “the dispensary (the clinic)” by the local community, it offers more than daily consultations and the distribution of medicine: a humanitarian service for local people and refugees.
MEDICAL CARE AND EDUCATIONAL SESSIONS

MEDICAL CARE AND EDUCATIONAL SESSIONS
OBJECTIVES AND METHODOLOGY:
In order to fulfill its mission, i.e. to offer the best medical services to the most vulnerable persons of the area, the healthcare community center, in collaboration with its partners, embraced a three-principle based methodology:
Curative Medicine: there are 3 types of consultations every day: family medicine, pediatrics, and gynecology, along with weekly consultations in cardiology, urology, ophthalmology, otorhinolaryngology, dermatology and orthopedics.
Preventive Medicine: A vaccination program was put in place for children, adolescents, and adults. Vaccination schedules mandated by the Ministry of Health are applied. Other optional vaccines are also available and offered. Systematic screening tests and preventive measures are provided in collaboration with different partners.
Community Approach and Health Awareness: Health awareness constitutes a major part of the center’s work. Proper health standards require information and awareness on issues related to health and disease. The clinic, with the participation of the expanded medical personnel, raises awareness by offering sessions about community health.
